COURAGEOUS SURVIVORS

Courageous Survivors is a foundation created by Janet Bentley in 2020. Its purpose is to provide survivors of sexual abuse and assault with a way to connect with other survivors and with resources that help them on their personal journey. To date, Courageous Survivors has provided a valuable connection to dozens of survivors, through its WebSite, Social Media, private Facebook Group, events, and therapist led support group(s).

Sexual Abuse and assault leave the victim with emotional scars that last a lifetime.  Courageous Survivors provides a place for adult survivors to share, find resources and gain strength from knowing that they can heal; that there are ways to get past the effects of sexual abuse.

It is possible to live our lives to the fullest. Most importantly, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

Our mission is supporting adult survivors on their path to happiness to help us achieve our vision of empowering every survivor of sexual assault and abuse

I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.

DARKNESS TO LIGHT

D2L is a leader in child sexual abuse prevention and uses the power of behavior change to protect children. Through a combination of research, education, and community advocacy, D2L uses a social behavior change approach to pioneer new training initiatives that bring child sexual abuse prevention to the attention of the broader cultural conversation. Their work empowers adults and organizations to bring best-practices in child safety to their own communities.

Darkness to Light’s core education program - Stewards of Children - is aimed at anyone who may be exposed to children in abusive (or potentially abusive) situations. The training is delivered to groups (such as health professionals, social workers, parents, teachers) and covers the whole subject of child sexual abuse, the warning signs to look out for and what to do if someone suspects abuse is taking place.

Janet is a licensed facilitator for Stewards of Children .

If we can share our story with someone who responds with empathy and understanding, shame can’t survive.

RAINN

RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) is the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization. RAINN created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800.656.HOPE) in partnership with more than 1,000 local sexual assault service providers across the country and operates the DoD Safe Helpline for the Department of Defense. RAINN also carries out programs to prevent sexual violence, help survivors, and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.

One of the offerings managed by RAINN is the Speakers Bureau, which is made up of more than 4,000 survivors of sexual violence who volunteer to share their stories. These individuals live in every corner of the country and represent a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences—together they make up an invaluable resource of knowledge and strength. Anyone can request a member of the Speakers Bureau to speak at their event.

Janet is a registered member of the RAINN Speakers Bureau.

I now see how owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do.
